![]() The paper used in Blurb books isn't as heavy or as glossy as the paper used by the others, but image quality is still very good. As the books get larger and heavier, there's more stress on the bindings, which are glued, not stitched, in all of these print-on-demand books. The books are available with up to 400 pages, although I'd recommend you keep them to no more than about 200 pages. They aim to offer 'bookstore-quality' books at lower prices than the others. And of course, if you've already spent several thousand dollars on a holiday, what's another $100 for a beautiful book to preserve the memories?!īlurb is kind of a 'new kid on the block', but they're catching up fast. The quality is high and quality control is good.įor these three, you are limited to 99 pages and costs are high, although they all often run special offers with discounts that will bring the prices down. IPhoto books are actually printed by My Publisher and there is little difference between the two, except that page layout options differ. With the others, when you go to upload your finished book, the images are processed before upload. And this partially explains why Shutterfly is the highest quality - because you upload your images at their full resolution and these are used to create the book. With the others, you download software, create the book on your own computer, then upload the finished book. Shutterfly is also different in that you first upload your photos to create albums on the server, then you create your book online. The best for print quality is Shutterfly, although the others are slowly catching up. I teach photography courses and received questions about these books from students, so I made sample books in order to show the differences. I've done books with iPhoto, My Publisher, Shutterfly and Blurb. There was a discussion of this topic several months ago on the Europe forum. You can look at their forum for other ideas, but most of what is there is mediocre at best (great trips I'm sure but page designers not). The second did not (requires photo shop or other design program and more work). I looked thru the mypublisher forum (not recently) and below are two of the best Africa or travel books I have seen. ![]() A good layout will give you a great book. If you have quality digital images MyPublisher is great. Would not use Blurb where I wanted to use full page scenics and animal shots, thus am working on a 2 volume book with mypublisher for our Africa trip. I have not made my own Blurb book, but ordered a sample they sell to look at the quality, which I don't think is as good as MyPublisher. Also true that Blurb is cheaper, you can put many more pages in a book (mypublisher limited to 100 sides unless that has changed with a software update recently released), but the largest Blurb page size is quite a bit smaller. As commented above, they are a professional quality, easy to use, there are several options for using text, and potentially more if you do your own page design. ![]() Have used MyPublisher on several books including travel and wedding and the quality on the large size (11x15 or so) is outstanding. ![]()
